I have a feeling the band chosen for this week’s article will receive some eye rolling, but I decided to feature Korn all the same. I certainly don’t blame anyone for jumping ship after the disappointment that was Issues. The two albums that followed were both solid offerings however, and Korn’s new album, due out tomorrow, seems like it will be an interesting listen as well. The remaining members of the group tried out several different producers this time around, including Dallas Austin (Pink, TLC) and The Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff), with the hope of a fresh start for their seventh studio album.
One of the producers to make the cut in the end is none other than Atticus Ross (NIN, Error), which brings me to this week’s pick. “Last Legal Drug”, found on the deluxe edition of See You on the Other Side, has a definite industrial bent to it and is worth a listen. I can’t say how much of the album reflects this new sound but it works surprisingly well and could be an interesting direction for the band to explore further in the future.
As a bonus, I’ve included a remix of “Here To Stay” by the one-and-only Mindless Self Indulgence. The track is every bit as goofy and catchy as you would expect from Little Jimmy Urine and company.
