When making requests of a development team, don't ask for just your immediate needs, thinking that'll get you what you want, and you can ask for the other stuff later. You will waste the development teams time and respect for any future requests you might make.
Take the time, and figure out what it is you want in it's entirety, explain that, and then explain what you need right now.
Software development is known to end up taking much longer than initially planned, purely because of crap like this.
