An interesting article that describes how the Church of Scientology managed to get a tax exempt status from the IRS.

I don't know much about this religion, so I found a few tidbits quite amusing. For instance:

"Its founder, Hubbard, asserted that people are immortal spirits who have lived through many lifetimes. In Scientology teachings, Hubbard described humans as clusters of spirits that were trapped in ice and banished to Earth 75 million years ago by Xenu, the ruler of the 26-planet Galactic Confederation. "

Really? We're descended from an alien planet? And 8 million people believe this?

Also, they want to reach greater heights as man, so must go through counselling sessions using "a device similar to a lie detector, known as an E-meter. " Whoa. That's really scary to me.

There's more, but I'm busy reading it. How do people get involved in this stuff?
