So I was going to write an article about the nominees for the Hugo award, one of the big sf awards. But my post was eaten.

So, baring that, I'm offereing this.

The nominees were:

* Eifelheim by Michael Flynn
* His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik
* Glasshouse by Charles Stross
* Blindsight by Peter Watts
*Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge

Rainbows end wound up winning.

Here's the cool thing: 3 of the nominees are available for free online, and while Glasshouse isn't available, another Stross novel is. And by free, I mean under a Creative Commons license that the authors have authorized.
