Best Video Games of the Aughts

This was actually a lot harder than I thought. I think I could easily come up with 10 great games from the 80s or 90s. I suspect this is more a reflection on my time spent gaming, as opposed to the quality of games this decade. Could also be that I owned the dominant systems of those decades, while Iíve never owned an Xbox of any stripe, and didnít get a PS2 until late in its life cycle. There should also probably be a few portable games on here, but the ones I played the most of were re-releases of older games.

Uncharted 2 (2009) PS3
Great game with a fun story that shows you can be mature without the need for sex, lots of violence, and lots of swearing. The settings are beautiful and the exploration is fun.

Metal Gear Solid 3 (2005) PS2
The ending of this game is probably the most emotional Iíve ever felt after a game. While the camo system is a bit of a pain in the ass, everything else, including the setting, the unique and wonderful bosses, and the ultimate fate of everyone in this game, is tremendous. Best game in a great series, and the one where most of the crazy story nonsense is toned down.

Team Fortress 2 (2007) PC (PS3, Xbox)
I donít play many first person shooters, but this is the best Iíve ever played. Low barrier to entry (unlike, say Counterstrike) due to the 9 different classes, and almost infinite replayability. Not to mention, part of the Orange Box, which might be the best value in gaming ever.

Peggle (2007) PC
Best puzzle game of the decade.

Resident Evil 4 (2005) Gamecube
I think thereís some revisionist history going on with this game. People try to downsell it due to the controls, but when this game came out, it was a revelation. Forget this slow moving zombie crap, hereís a totally new setting and new story. I still remember the first time the guy with the chain saw cut off my head.

World of Warcraft (2004) PC
Not only a great (but time consuming) game, but a game that influenced virtually all PC gaming. Virtually every other Western MMO has failed, but WoW has clearly influenced games like Fallout 3 and The Witcher.

MegaMan 9 (2008) PSN, Xbox Live, PC
I love me some NES MegaMan. This is the first NES MegaMan in 20 years. Brutally hard, significantly awesome.

God of War 2 (2007) PS2
At times I find this series too over the top with its blood and puzzles (itís sort of like a linear Zelda with blood and boos), but the graphics and gameplay are strong enough that I felt it had to be on the list.

Steam - not a game, but the best distribution method ever for games, and I wanted to mention it here.

Honourable mentions:
Shadow of the Collosus, Guitar Hero, Fire Emblem
