Wha Happen?

Actually the title and description have nothing to do with the article itself...
which is titled:

I hate the 700 Club

For those of you who don’t know, this is the 700 Club in their own words:
“The 700 Club is a live television program that airs weekdays before a studio audience from The Christian Broadcasting Network's (CBN) broadcast facilities in Virginia Beach, Virginia. On the air continuously since 1966, it is one of the longest-running programs in broadcast history….The 700 Club is a mix of news and commentary, interviews, feature stories, and Christian ministry. Seen in 95 percent of the television markets across the United States, the program is carried on ABC Family Channel cable network, FamilyNet, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and numerous U.S. television stations, and is seen daily by approximately one million viewers. CBN WorldReach broadcasts, which include the international edition of The 700 Club, have been translated into more than 70 foreign languages, can be seen in more than 200 countries, and are accessible throughout the year by more than 1.5 billion people around the world.”

This means basically a 1 hour telethon a day, sometimes 2 hours on Sunday, when they have a ‘special broadcast’.

The format is a cross between Dateline NBC and Sunday school. The hour consists of some sort of ‘news’ story for 15 mins and soliciting funds from viewers during the other 45. The news stories are usually about current evens with a biblical spin. Usually in the vein of:
Magic the Gathering is EVIL!!!!11!
Heavy Metal is EVULLLL!!111
Rap is EVULLLLL111111111!
Books are Evil! (Accept for the bible of course.. and whatever book Pat Robertson is currently pedaling )
Feng Shui is EVIL
America …. The beautiful
America…. Army = Good
America…. Founded for Jesus Christ
America…. Godliness and Righteousness
And not to be forgotten Video Games, Sex, (Basically Fun in general) are evil…..

But the bottom line too all these broadcasts is this If you are Christian (not a dirty Muslim ) and give them money (the more the better) you will find salvation, and really anything it is that you are looking for in life.

If you watch the 700 Club you get the feeling of one of those late-night infomercials that sell magic Knives, fast cooking ovens, juicers and cleaning products. The problem with the 700 Club is that is solicits your funds promising everything in return, with no reasonable backup to its statements.

You call in, donate the minimum 20 dollars a month, and SHAZAMMMM, you’re a successful, thin, pious, homeowner with money in the bank! They go so far as to have viewer testimonials about how successful, thin, and pious they became after starting to donate 20 dollars a month (or 10% of your salary, whichever is more), to the 700 Club. At least with the infomercials you get a really fast amazing sewing machine, or expert real estate tips, with the 700 Club I am willing to guarantee you get nothing but piece of mind.

In one of the testimonials I saw one Sunday, a couple goes so far as suggesting that if you can’t afford the $20 a month you should cut back on things….. Like FOOD!

The Wells were now beginning to understand the principle of giving. Pat’s teaching on the Law of Reciprocity helped to solidify the concept of giving God your best.

Says Maury, "Watching The 700 Club, I fell in love with Pat, I fell in love with the whole show. Anything he has to say he will back it up with the Bible. He is not coming up with things out of the blue. As far as I’m concerned; it’s genuine teaching."

Before the teaching, the Wells had given to their local church when they could afford it. They now realized they hadn’t been giving God their best.

"We never took that step of faith to tithe the correct amount," says Maury. "It was what was left over at the end of the week."

But when Maury suggested they tithe the correct amount, 10 percent, it seemed impossible. However, they were willing to test God, as the Bible commands, and see what would happen.

"I would only purchase really necessary stuff," she says. "I wouldn’t go out, knowing that it was going to burn gas. I wouldn’t go traveling. I’d stay home. I would cut down the phone bill and try and change our phone plan.”

The 700 Club does some good with its money, helping out the poor and underprivileged of Third World countries. They give shoes and operations to the starving masses of Africa in exchange for their eternal devotion to Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Not to mention that in some cases the American tax payer is now funding Pat Robertson’s Holy Quest For …. Well I’m not quite sure what he is after… money it seems.

Their organization even prompts its members to pray for certain bills to pass through the US Senate.

Terrible, terrible tripe… (Actually tripe isn’t all that bad.. just kind of gelatinous)
Now I do understand that this is the nature of faith, do what GOD says is a good thing to do and you’ll benefit. But really who is instructing these people, God or Pat Robertson?

Law of Reciprocity….. Law of Recishmosity
