Review of Intolerable Cruelty

So, it's Tuesday, which means that the new movies come out!

So, I rented Intolerable Cruelty. This is a Coen brother’s movie. They're the eccentric director/writer duo that made such movies as Fargo and O Brother, where art though?

To be honest, I haven't seen many of their movies, only O Brother and the Big Lebowski. I don't know if that makes me more or less qualified to review the film. Whatever, I am going to go with meh.

So, George Clooney is a divorce lawyer that's in love with his teeth. You may remember that in O Brother he was obsessed with his hair.
Stay tuned, as in the next movie he's going to play with his nipples alot, then his treasure trail, and for his final Coen Brothers movie he's going to spend the entire 2 hours braiding his pubic hair.

Anyways, Zeta Jones gets Cedric the Entertainer (the poor man's Bernie Mac? Maybe that's not fair. Bernie Mac's cousin?) to film her husband screwing around. Then she starts the divorce proceeding, and Clooney is her husband's lawyer. Then Clooney starts to fall in love with her. I won't spoil any of the plot twists, as there are a few, so we'll just leave it there.

This is a tough film to like. The problem is that pretty much everyone in the film is shallow, or a prick, or, in most cases, a shallow prick. (Is there a limit to how many commas you can use in a sentence? I am going for the record!) Just when you think someone's redeemed themselves... ah no.
There's also some strange legal stuff going on that upon examination doesn’t really make much sense. But it's a comedy, so I'll grant that we don't have to examine it too much.

However, despite that, the film manages to be pretty entertaining. Sometimes just watching people be pricks can be funny (see Curb Your Enthusiasm). If you like the (mildly) black comedy, this is worth a rental. There are also some jokes that you might appreciate more if you have some knowledge of the law, but whatever.

For the Children:
Zeta Jones's first husband likes to get girls in their bra and underwear and have the jump around him while yelling "Choo Choo" and doing the sweet arm pump motion. Enjoy.
