I just read the discussion on quality TV shows and noticed a classic Canadian series missing from the list. Twitch City aired a few years back on the CBC and was very different and very funny. The show is hard to describe but basically it revolved around an unemployed shut in who is obsessed with television and the different oddball roommates that briefly share his apartment in Kensington Market.
Only 13 episodes were made, but during its short run the show featured a neo-Nazi group made up of gay men and the band Sloan, cats taking over the world, parodies of the show OZ and the movie Single White Female, Mark McKinney and Bruce McCulloch playing the same character, and Al Waxman being killed by cat food.
Showcase has been re-airing the series lately and the first episode "I Slept With My Mother" is on this Thursday at 9:00. I highly recommend it. Not only is it laugh track free but its also followed by an episode of the Trailer Park Boys. CanCon at its finest.
