Review of Infernal Affairs

Infernal Affairs is an Asian Cop movie. I thought that it's just been released in theatre over here, but I was able to find it at my local alternative video store, which was nice.

So, the plot is this:
There's a feud going on between the cops and a Triad gang. The cops have a mole in the Triad Gang, and the gang have a mole in the cops. Both sides realize this, so the cops assign a cop to find out who the mole is, and the Triad assign a gangster to find out who their mole is. The cop who's assigned to find the mole... is the mole!
And the gangster who's assigned to find the mole?
He's the mole!

This may sound a little bit silly, but it's actually amazing. The movie follows their efforts to report to the other side without getting busted. Both of them have been undercover for 10 years: the 'cop' gets to live a pretty normal life, with a fiance, nice job, nice apartment, while the 'triad' member (who's one of the guys from Hero) has a pretty shit life, getting arrested all the time, and getting his ass kicked in the odd gang fight. Plus, he can't ever really form a relationship.

I don't really want to talk much more about the plot, because it's awesome, and I don't want to give anything away.
One thing that I did think was a little overboard were the questions of who's the good guy and who's the bad guy. The 'cop's fiance is writing a novel where she doesn't know if her main character is good or bad, and the 'triad' member asks his court appointed psychiatrist if he's a good guy or a bad guy. This is repeated a few times througout the movie: Allright, i get it. They're conflicted. There's nice things to being the other guy.

Anyways, this is highly recommended. I don't know if it's out at Blockbuster or whatever, but if it is, you should snap it up.
Oh yeah, the ending is awesome. Like, there's a part where you think things should end, and then they keep going on. And in almost every movie where that happens it sucks. You just want the movie to end. But it works really well in this, and is fantastic.

There are two sequels to this (well, one prequel and one sequel), but I really don't want to see them. If anyone's seen them and would care to comment on them, go for it.

Also, they're remaking this in NA, rumour has it that Matt Damon (good) and Leonardo Dicaprio (?) are up for the leads.
