Review of The Chronicles of Riddick

Posted by phduffy on 2004-12-20 01:02:10

I was bored, so I rented the Chronicles of Riddick.

I pretty much expected this to be horrible, and it wasn't quite. It was pretty average, with lots of over the topness.

Anyways, Vin Diesel is Riddick, the cool guy from Pitch Black.
It's been 10 years, and he's been hiding out, and some bounty hunters find him. Seems that someone is looking for him to fight an even greater evil or something. The Necromangers are this group of badass human aliens going around and killing planets.

Anyways, most of the movie involves Riddick running away from something, being caught, escaping, etc. Repeat as desired.

The movie was pretty weird. I'm not usually a huge fan of mixing sf and fantasy (Star Wars being the exception). Riddick has some sort of weird powers... we're not quite sure why he has them though. They sort of explain it in the movie, but it doesn't make sense.

They had a character called an Elemental, that hung out with the Necromangers but helped the defence call up Riddick. I thought for sure that they had to be going a certain with her, but in the end she's kind of forgotten. The whole thing is weird, like, Riddick barely needs to be in the movie.

Also, rumour was that they were planning more than one of these movies. If you're going to do that, you need to end your movie like the first Matrix movie. Not like this movie.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE:
Hm.... they're stupid computer generated hell hounds?
